What age can my child start kids BJJ?

Our Little Kids Gi class starts at age 4. Big Kids Gi is for ages 8-15, and we also run a homeschool gi class and a kids competition class.

Is the kids program family-friendly?

Yes. Triad is a family-safe culture with no negative talk or cursing. Instructors build real relationships with each child and teach them as part of the school.

What should my child wear?

A white or blue gi for gi classes, and athletic wear for no-gi. We'll help you get sized and set up at your child's free trial.

Do you offer a homeschool class?

Yes — our Homeschool Gi Class runs Tuesdays and Thursdays at 2:00 PM, built for homeschooling families.

Can my child compete?

We offer a Kids Competition Class on Wednesdays at 5:15 PM for students who want to compete, coached by our competition-experienced staff.

Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Ruston, LA

Kids BJJ at Triad builds coordination, confidence, and discipline in a family-safe environment with no negative talk or cursing. Classes are split by age so every child gets age-appropriate coaching from instructors who teach like they're part of the family.

Instructor: Makayla Lee (Big Kids) and Kandace Landreneau (Little Kids).

Who it's for

Kids ages 4-15, split into Little Kids (4-7), Big Kids (8-15), plus a homeschool gi class and a kids competition class.

What a typical session looks like

Classes combine a fun warm-up, technique of the day, games and drilling, and supervised live training — all paced for each age group.

What to expect in your first class

Show up a few minutes early and we'll get you oriented — a quick tour, a waiver, and an introduction to your instructor. Class opens with a guided warm-up, then the technique of the day broken down step by step. You'll drill it slowly with a partner, and beginners start with controlled positional work rather than full live rounds. No experience is needed, and you can sit out any round you want. Your first class is free — book it online or drop in before class.
